HELPING MANUFACTURERS REDUCE WASTE AND PREPARE FOR THE FUTURE

HELPING MANUFACTURERS REDUCE WASTE AND PREPARE FOR THE FUTURE

What keeps manufacturing leaders up at night?

The metal cutting industry has changed a lot over the last years. Single piece high quality products are now produced and delivered as fast as if they were on stock and at the same price as in a mass production environment. For many it can be a very stressful challenge to meet. Costs are too high, lead times are too long, quality must be maintained. Added to that, product cycle times and market trends are shorter than ever. The high-mix/low-volume trend is getting even stronger, and speed and the ability to be reactive is important to be able to stay in the race.

What keeps manufacturing leaders up at night?
What keeps manufacturing leaders up at night?

The main issues and daily battles that todays manufacturing leaders report include

  • Knowledge acquisition – How do I stay up to date with the latest tools and technology to keep my plant competitive? What does Industry 4.0 mean for us?
  • Workforce skills gap – How can I keep the skills level in my workforce high enough to be able to meet the challenges of today and tomorrow head on?
  • Financials – Am I making money? Have I costed the last orders correctly? Am I being paid on time by my suppliers?
  • Delivery time – Am I able to produce the orders in time? Should I allow more time for unforeseen events?
  • OEE – Where is the bottleneck on my shop floor? How can I make improvements to balance out my production?
  • COGS – Why is our yield so low? Every time we rework a part our costs go up, but how can we improve it?

The main issues and daily battles that todays manufacturing leaders report include

  • Knowledge acquisition
  • Workforce skills gap
  • Delivery precision
  • Lead time
  • Capacity management
  • Production cost control
  • Tools management

MANUFACTURING EFFICIENCY EVALUATION (MEE)

The path to operational excellence starts here…

Our unique approach of manufacturing performance around 3 components: Machining, manufacturing systems and people

  • Machine
  • Process
  • People
  • Machining System & Process

We identify waste in machining processes and suggest areas of improvement to enhance your machining productivity. We look at tool deterioration analysis, tool life cycle analysis and group technology to ensure you are machining at the optimal levels. Common issues identified in this area include tool breakage, poor tool performance, tool management and the systematic control of tools on the shop floor, however Some of the biggest losses from the machining process affect shop floor capacity like delays in machine set up time or NC programs not being ready in time.

  • Manufacturing system

We identify losses and suggest improvements in the current operating system and currently used equipment across the machine shop. We look at the performance of the production system, overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) and quality processes. Common issues identified in the manufacturing system can include labor productivity problems like operators walking long distances for tools or equipment, operators running a single process or conformance issues being found at quality control and not at a workstation.

  • Manufacturing environment

We identify gaps and improvement levers in how the manufacturing environment is managed and human intellect is used. We investigate operational performance management – How pace and rhythm are given to the workshop and how do your people feel and behave? Common issues in the manufacturing environment can form around planning and will manifest as poor delivery performance and a lot of rescheduling or around skills management and how you keep your workforce competence at an optimal level.
